Ways to Use Dried Oranges
I originally learned how to make dried orange slices to keep my Simmer Pot DIY Christmas Gifts super budget-friendly, but then I realized how versatile they are!
You can use dried orange slices for DIY home decor and homemade Christmas decorations in so many ways. String them into an orange slice garland, turn them into simple dried orange ornaments for the tree, add them to a dried orange wreath, or mix them into potpourri for a natural and cozy scent.
What started as a practical way to save money quickly became one of my favorite easy DIYs because they work for gifting and decorating without needing anything fancy. Oh, and the kids can get involved, which is always a win!
How To Make Dried Orange Slices

You’ll probably be surprised at just how easy this is! Here’s exactly what I do:
- Thinly slice the orange into uniform pieces. A medium to large orange will give you about nine to ten slices.
- Turn your oven to its lowest temperature. For me, that’s 170 degrees. Another option, and my personal favorite, is my toaster oven, which even has a dehydrate feature! I rarely use my actual oven since getting it.
- Arrange the slices on parchment paper and place them in the oven to dehydrate, flipping them periodically. I did this every hour or so.
- Let them “cook” for about 6 to 8 hours, give or take. I started on a Saturday morning when I knew I would be home for the day.
- Remove from the oven and save until you are ready to use. I left mine out on the counter overnight to fully dry. If you’re putting these into simmer pot jars then you really want to make sure it’s completely percent dry because mold can grow if any moisture is still present.
Here you can see how they look as they dry. The ends start to shrivel, and you’ll know they’re completely dried when the center is no longer mushy.

Just look at that gorgeous color once they’re finished!
